Girl Talk

Greg Gillis (aka Girl Talk) has released a new album called Feed the Animals. Until today I was not familiar with Girl Talk. Personally I'm a big fan of mashups so I was happy to come across this album. You can name your price and download Feed the Animals here. Yep, you can pay any amount you want for Feed the Animals.

E.S.L

I haven't been in a good mood lately. However this band kind of cheered me up tonight. I love finding new music. E.S.L is a Vancouver based band that was formed in 2005. They refer to themselves as a band of gypsies.

Marta Jackubek-McKeever is the lead singer and has a beautiful voice, which kind of reminds me of Bjiork. (What do you think?) Other band members include Cris Derksen, Diona Davies and Joy Mullen. There first album called Eye Contact will be released on June 3rd. Marta Jackubek-McKeever is the lead singer and has a beautiful voice.

Free Grog Shop Tickets from Melt!

Melt and the Grog Shop are teaming up to offer you free tickets to an upcoming show.

Starting today, Lakewood’s popular grilled-cheese spot, Melt, is partnering with the Grog Shop to hand out free tickets to sponsored concerts at the venerable Cleveland Heights indie venue.

All you have to do is order a grilled-cheese sandwich and a bottle of beer at Melt – and they’ve got plenty of great options for both -- and then ask your server for a pair of passes to a show. You can start with tonight’s Bellrays rock-and-soul concert, wherein the SoCal quartet will pimp its new CD, Hot, Sweet & Sticky. (Kansas City’s the architects and Cleveland’s Cobra Verde open). …

You can also score tickets to the May 28 show with NYC garage rockers the French Kicks of New York City. Each show starts at 9 p.m., and you can check both the Melt and Grog Shop websites for upcoming ticket deals.

“This is a great way to do something cool during the week, save some money, and see some really great bands in a fantastic venue,” says Melt owner Matt Fish, one of the rockers who mixed it up for the innovative Lottery League music draft earlier this year.

Place your orders between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. and midnight Fridays and Saturdays, and 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. Sundays at 14718 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood.

TuneGlue - Musicmap

TuneGlue is an excellent way to find out about new artists. This online application helps you find artists similar to the artists you already know and love. For example I typed in Coldplay in the image example above. TuneGlue then showed me links to The Fray, Travis, The Killers, and Snow Patrol. Obviously you can go on and on and dig deeper and deeper to search for artists.

The data is supplied from last.fm and Amazon.

STP Last Night

If you weren't there, that's to bad. Stone Temple Pilots put on an amazing show last night at the State Theatre. It was incredible. Several times on the radio I heard that there was going to be no opening band. We got there around 7:25 expecting STP to take the stage at any second. A friend of mine then pointed out that the drum on stage said Ashes Divide. So, I later learned that STP decided at the last minute to have Ashes Divide open the show. This was fine but honestly we wouldn't have rushed over to the theatre as quickly as we did.

STP played for about 2 1/2 hours. The venue was great but I probably would of preferred an outside venue for a concert like this. And... I did not know Scott Weiland grew up in Chagrin Falls. Did you?

Stone Temple Pilots in Cleveland

I'm ecstatic to see Stone Temple Pilots tonight at the State Theatre. Remembering years ago they played downtown and I was so disappointed that I missed the show. I thought I'd never have the chance to see them in concert. The show is sold out but yesterday they released 80 more tickets. If you already have tickets it's important that you know there is NO opening band. STP will take the stage at 7:30. Update: Sorry I was wrong. At the last minute STP decided to add an opening act.

The Hush Sound

Panic at the Disco was a great concert on Friday night. I loved every second of it. They are an awesome band to see live. One thing I love about going to concerts is watching the opening bands. Although we missed Phantom Planet due to drinking another beer at Great Lakes Brewery we got to see The Hush Sound. If you haven't had a chance to listen to The Hush Sound I highly recommend them. I'm going to try to check out a second show when we are in Vegas next month. Hopefully I can get a few tickets.

UPDATE : THE HUSH SOUND IS PLAYING AT THE GARAGE SHOP ON JULY 13TH. TICKETS AVAILABLE AT TICKETMASTER.

The Greatest Man that Ever Lived

Weezer
released a new single yesterday title "The Greatest Man that Ever Lived". I'm so glad they are still making albums. The song is now available for download on itunes.

Carolina Liar

In a few weeks we are heading to Los Angeles to visit a friend and we have tickets to see a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel show. This morning I found out that Carolina Liar is the band that will be performing on the show that day. At first I was slightly disappointed because I wasn't familiar with the name of the band. However after checking out their website I'm now a fan.

Carolina Liar is a six person band based out of both Los Angeles and Stockholm. Their first album "Coming to Terms" will be released on June 3rd. and To hear some of their songs click here.

Panic at the Disco

Need something to do this weekend? Panic At the Disco (previously known as Panic! At the Disco) will be playing in Cleveland at The Tower City Ampitheatre on Friday the 16th. Since the release of their latest album called Pretty.Odd. I've become an even bigger fan of PATD. The band is originally from Las Vegas Nevada and debuted their first album in 2005.

Another band on the lineup for Friday is Phantom Planet from Southern California. You know Phantom Planet right? They sang the theme song from the O.C. "California". In all honesty they are a really good band regardless if you were a fan of the O.C. or not. They have a new album out called Raise the Dead. They're continuing to be successful since they played their first show back in 1995.

And I can't end this post without mentioning a third band playing on Friday, Motion City Soundtrack from Minneapolis. I'm getting pretty excited about this show now that I've wrote about it here.

Rogue Wave Coming to Cleveland

Yesterday I saw that Rogue Wave will be playing at the Plain Dealer Pavilion on June 13th. At first I was thrilled because Rogue Wave is amazing and they are definitely high on my list of concerts I need to see. I was even more thrilled to see they are playing with Death Cab for Cutie. Then I quickly realized I will be on vacation when they are in town. So, I expect someone reading this to go to the show and fill me in on how awesome it was. This is probably going to be one of the best shows of the summer. Great venue and two great bands. You can buy tickets here.

For those of you unfamiliar with Rogue Wave they are an alternative rock band signed to Brushfire Records (Jack Johnson's record label). The band was created by Zach Schwartz (aka Zach Rogue) who previously worked in the dot-com business. Rogue Wave's first album was released in 2004. Since then Rogue Wave has released three additional albums. They have an awesome website that is packed full of information.

Listen to Sightlines here.

Under Construction

This site is still under construction but here's what it's about. Sound Scene will focus on promoting bands performing in the Cleveland Ohio area. Giving you a heads up of who is coming to town. It will be a daily source for new music and videos. Informative resource for local Cleveland bands and the music they are producing. Stay tuned for more!
